Hurricane Sandy Destroys Animal Habitats At Wildlife In Crisis

Wildlife In Crisis (WIC) has been gravely affected by Hurricane Sandy – no loss of life, but some very close calls for the volunteer staff and the animals.

Wildlife In Crisis (WIC) really needs your help!

Hurricane Sandy has affected so many of us as a major inconvenience — and tragically altered the universe of others. Our hearts and compassion go out to all those who suffered losses and continue to struggle, due to this devastating storm.

Numerous homes and businesses have been affected by Sandy, but in particular, one non-profit organization, WIC, suffered extreme devastation. Set back in the woods, this wildlife retreat is surrounded by magnificent trees and wooded land that the animals find so comforting during their stay at the center. But, Hell hath no fury like Mother Nature, and Hurricane Sandy is definitely confirmation of her strength. The storm’s power, was responsible for toppling large trees at WIC, resulting extreme devastation, although thankfully, with no injury or loss of life to the staff or the animals.

Established in 1988 and located in Fairfield County, CT, WIC is the premier wildlife care center in the Northeast. The center, which operates year round and accepts more than 5,000 injured, ill and orphaned wild animals each year, attributes its success to the philosophy that healing is a meditative journey — one that embraces each animal’s spirit, enhancing the ability to heal the physical well-being of that animal — with the hope that the animal will receive a second chance and be released back into the wild.

The devastation brought on by Hurricane Sandy has resulted in the severe destruction of several buildings considered home to various species residing at the center. In addition, the fallen trees continue to place the staff and the animals in harm’s way.

As an entirely volunteer run, non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife preservation and land conservation, WIC relies on the generosity of its supporters to continue its good work.

You Can Help…

Skilled Tree Surgeons are needed to remove very large fallen trees and precariously hanging branches and debris, to alleviate the current conditions, removing staff and animals from harm’s way.

Skilled Carpenters are necessary, to assist with the rebuilding of the lost habitats, which are essential to the nurturing and healing of the wildlife that are fortunate to find their way to the center in their time of need.

Tax Deductible Monetary Donations which are graciously accepted and appreciated any time during the year – no donation is considered too large or too small – are definitely appreciated now, to rebuild what has been lost due to Hurricane Sandy.
