More adoption options

If you would like to adopt a pet but cannot attend one of these events, Adopt a Dog is open all year long! Click here to learn about their organization and adoptable pets.

Another, sometimes overlooked, source of adoptable dogs is breed rescue groups. A list of rescue groups for every AKC registered breed can be found here.

Helping adopted dogs adjust to a new home

It is common for rehomed dogs to need a bit of training to help them adjust. Sometimes this involves housetraining (which is pretty easy once you get the hang of it) or pet manners (walking nicely on leash, sitting when asked, etc.) To learn a bit about choosing a dog trainer, click here.
