July 18: Spend Founder's Day With the Reapportionment Commission to End Gerrymandering of Greenwich

On July 18 the Connecticut Reapportionment Commission's hearing presents a once-in-ten-year opportunity to end gerrymandering of Greenwich.

July 18 is the 371st anniversary of the founding of Greenwich in 1640. What a great day to begin the end of the gerrymandering of Greenwich!

On July 18 at 7 p.m. the Reapportionment Commission will hold a hearing in the City Council Chambers in Norwalk City Hall. I will present the plans submitted by Joe Kantorski and myself to redistrict Assembly House districts 149, 150 and 151 to reunite Greenwich neighborhoods that had been separated by gerrymandering after the 1980 and 1990 censuses. I have discussed this (at length) in previous posts.

We have recently supplemented our submission to the Commission with census Maps and data that confirm the proposed districts meet the Commission's criteria. I have uploaded a copy of our supplemental submission.

The Greenwich Time came out with a favorable editorial recommending the plans as a big improvement over the current districts: http://www.greenwichtime.com/news/article/A-lot-to-like-in-redistricting-plan-1466758.php.

Please come to add your voice to support the proposals to reunite neighborhoods so that similarly situated voters may vote in the same district.

PS: The only criticism I have read about the plans is to question my motivation as some speculate wrongly that I am doing this because I want to run again for State Rep in District 151. Not true! I am doing this because when I was a candidate in 2006 against Dolly Powers I learned from Lou Caravello and Mary McNamee how Central Greenwich, Chickahominy, and Cos Cob were gerrymandered after the 1980 census. I also promised Mary Lou Woods, who was victimized by gerrymandering in her races with A.U. Fox, that I would try to "un-gerrymander" Greenwich at the next opportunity. This is it!
