Nancy Barton Will Be Missed on the BET
Nancy Barton has resigned from the BET and has withdrawn as a BET Candidate due to illness. Democrats seek new candidate for the BET.
Nancy Barton, one of the most competent people I have ever met and a passionate voice for children, the elderly and the underprivileged, has resigned from the Board of Estimate and Taxation due to illness.
She has also withdrawn as a candidate in the upcoming election. After years of faithful service on the BET and a spirited campaign for State Senate in 2010, Nancy Barton has withdrawn from public life. We used to sit next to each other at BET meetings and I would marvel at Nancy's ability to analyze and get to the heart of the matters being considered by the Board.
A former General Counsel of GE Capital, Nancy was a force on the BET Law Committee and single-handedly took over the review and drafting of budget resolutions. She was also a passionate advocate for the elderly and underprivileged leading the fight for Senior Tax Credits, and a stalwart opponent against budget cuts to Social Services. She has been a leader in the fight to modernize Nathaniel Witherell. As President of the Nancy was also intensely interested in the welfare of children.
