Boucher to Run For Congress?

Longtime state legislator mulling a challenge against incumbent Jim Himes.

, representing and six other Fairfield County towns, is reportedly mulling a run for Congress.

According to a report in the CT Post, Boucher, who lives in Wilton, “appears to be gaining traction in GOP circles as a potential challenger to ” (D-4th).

Elected to the state Senate in 2008 after serving six terms in the state House, Boucher is a longtime state legislator and a champion of education reform. She currently serves as a ranking member of both the Education and Higher Education committees of the General Assembly.

Boucher, who is also a , made headlines in May when she Democratic Gov. Dannel Malloy’s , which softened the penalty for possession of small amounts of marijuana (under a half ounce) to a $100 fine and made it legal for some medical uses, stating that the was rooted in his son's earlier arrests on drug charges.

She later to Gov. Malloy for the remarks.

When asked in a recent Patch feature what she felt was the , Boucher replied: “... 'shared sacrifice' has been misused and created a contentious environment. It should be removed from our vocabulary."
