Cos Cob, Riverside, Old Greenwich Quiet As Irene Approaches
Few store owners board up for Hurricane Irene; traffic volume light on east side of town; almost no pedestrians.
The streets of Cos Cob, Riverside and Old Greenwich were very quiet as of 7:30 p.m. — and only a handful of businesses, mostly restaurants, gas stations and liquor stores, were open — as Hurricane Irene approached.
Some of the stores seen open in Cos Cob included Tomatillo, Pizza Post, Arcuri's, Cos Cob Stationary, Post Wine & Spirits and Dunkin Donuts/Baskin-Robins, among others; stores open in Riverside inlcuded Pomodoro, Hunan Cafe, CVS, A&P Fresh, A&P Liquors and LaBella Fine Wines & Spirits, among others; and stores open in Old Greenwich included Walgreen's, Greenwich Tavern and Mackenzie's Grille, among others.
Meanwhile Greenwich residents were being advised to not drive after sunset.

Only a handful of store owners — mostly those with large single-pane windows — decided board up their store fronts in each neighborhood.
The storm is now predicted to hit Greenwich at about 7 a.m., Sunday, with winds starting at around midnight. Residents who live in low-lying areas along the shore are being advised to evacuate before the high winds and storm surge hits.
