eBay Saturday: A Bug for Collectibles

Who doesn't remember when Pray Volkswagen was the hub for all things automotive, especially when it came to the Volkswagen?

Welcome to the weekend Greenwich!

Looking to shop from the comforts of home rather than cope with the oppressive heat and humidity?

Here's some help if you want to be an armchair shopper. Greenwich Patch has  "eBay Saturday." Each week, I'll search the term "Greenwich, CT" on the popular auction site eBay and see what pops up, and post it for Patch readers to see (and perhaps bid on). Maybe you have a Greenwich-related item — a postcard, a milk bottle from the old Round Hill Farms, a menu from the former Manero's steakhouse. If you do and want to sell it, you can click on your submit your photo or videos button above.

This week's choice is what is described as vintage 1960s postcard illustrating the former Pray Volkswagen dealership on West Putnam Avenue at Prospect Street. (Can you hear the beep-beep of the car horn?) The card shows a Karmann Ghia in the foreground with the ubiquitous Beetle in the showroom.

There are 4 days left to the auction of the postcard which had a current bid price of $9.99 Friday evening, plus $3 shipping. The seller also says the ad "The card is in very good (postally unused) condition. Card has lightly bumped  corners and slight wear along the bottom edge but no writing, creases or other flaws. My scanner washed the colors out a bit - the card is brighter and more vibrant in person than shown above."

We're not vouching for the authenticity of the item ... it's buyer beware. But at the very least, ebay Saturday can give you a trip down Memory Lane!
