During the sentencing, prosecutors urged the judge and the New York state parole board to "never, never, never let him out," according to the New York Post. Barrera pleaded guilty to the April 2011 murder of Coit back in September.

During the Sept. 25 proceeding, prosecutors said that Coit was beaten, stabbed 30 times and was nearly decapitated in the attack in the lower East Side New York apartment the couple shared.

Barrera asked Coit's family forgiveness before he was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. In his sentencing, Justice Richard Carruthers said Coit "unbelievable agony" and that he would urge the parole board "to make sure he's never released," according to The Post.
