'Fraidy' He Won't Get a Home

Adult cat at Greenwich Animal Shelter in need of a home.

For whoever becomes the new owner of Fraidy-Cat, the first order of business might be picking a new name. When Greenwich Animal Control received this green-eyed boy he was quite timid. According to animal control officer Suzanne Carlin, “Fraidy had airplane ears when he arrived,” a reference to how he had flattened ears that pointed straight out to the sides. In cats, this is a sign of fear. Hence the name.

These days, Fraidy is nothing of the sort. At animal control, he has settled into his cat-condo nicely and after a brief moment of reserve, greets visitors affectionately.

With his fluffy ginger coat, perhaps a Harry Potter loving family honoring the end of the franchise might choose “Crookshanks,” as a name, after Hermione Granger’s magical cross-breed feline.

Fraidy’s come a long way since sneaking into the basement of a North Street homeowner, attempting to become the second cat of the house. “If nobody was going to look for him, he was going to look for somebody,” said Carlin.

Fraidy is approximately three- to five-years-old and has been neutered. He has benefited from his time at animal control, where he receives a lot of love and has learned to trust people. He has healed from a surgery to remove a bladder stone, but will require a special diet to prevent another stone. This simply means buying a specific bag of dry food – nothing extravagant.

Call Animal Control at 203 622-8299 to arrange to meet Fraidy-Cat and make his dream of finding a home come true. The facility, located at 393 North St., is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily; but call ahead to make sure they're there and not out rescuing another animal.
