Greenwich Hospital Receives "Gold Seal of Approval"for Excellence in Spine and Joint Surgery

Hospital performs more than 700 procedures annually.

Greenwich Hospital is one of six facilities nationwide and the only hospital in Connecticut to receive The Joint Commission’s “Gold Seal of Approval™” for spinal fusion and total hip and knee replacement surgery.

The two Greenwich Hospital programs – The Spine Institute and The Center for Joint Replacement – received certification for disease-specific care for adhering to national standards for excellence, quality and safety. The hospital underwent a vigorous on-site survey as part of the process.

Orthopedic and neurosurgeons at Greenwich Hospital perform about 700 spinal fusion and total joint replacement procedures a year. The Spine Institute at Greenwich Hospital was certified for cervical (neck) and lumbar (lower back) spinal fusion. The Center for Joint Replacement at Greenwich Hospital was certified for hip and knee replacement surgery.

The certification recognizes clinical excellence and patient satisfaction, and continued improvements to patient care.

“This accomplishment is the result of our commitment to maintaining clinical excellence and patient satisfaction, while continuously working to improve patient care,” hosital President and CEOFrank Corvino said in a prepared statement. “It is a major accomplishment for us and benefit for the communities we serve.”

According to the hospital, its programs offer a level of continuity that is above what other facilities offer. A clinical resource nurse provides patients before, during and after surgery, and throughout rehabilitation and recovery with practical information, emotional support and follow-up care.
