Holiday Weekend Quiet for Police

Tickets issued for moving violations; dwi and fishing without a license.

The four-day holiday weekend proved to be a relatively quiet one for .

According to Sgt. John Slusarz, of the traffic section, there were 15 minor motor vehicle crashes in town from Friday through Monday night. A total of 28 tickets were issued to drivers “ranging from driving without a seatbelt, to speeding, going through stop signs, red lights … the whole range of moving violations,” Slusarz said.

This year there also were three arrests for driving while intoxicated.  When compared to 2010, “there were 74 violations and no DWI arrests and seven accident investigations. … All in all it was a quiet weekend,” Slusarz added.

Also, officers in the marine division issued five misdemeanor summons to people fishing without a license. The penalty for not obtaining the $10 license that's available from any fish and tackle shop, sporting goods stores and local s, and online  from the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection is an $87 fine
