Holiday Weekend: What's Open, What's Closed

Holiday weekend schedules for businesses, government and movies.

It's Black Friday and the merchants are open in Greenwich, but there are plenty of places that are closed or operating with abbreviated schedules.

Here's a quick guide to what's happening including a few special holiday events. And we've even included the movie schedule for the Greenwich Bowtie Cinema if you've had more than your fill of Thanksgiving Day football games.

Metro-North 
Metro-North will oper­ate a “Saturday” schedule with a lot of extra service during the AM and PM peaks, as well as inbound between 10 AM and 2 PM.

The CT Transit website says there will be a regular schedule with Reduced Commuter Connection service.

New York Stock Exchange
Fri. Nov. 25 - Open.

State Courts
Thurs., Nov. 24 - Closed 

State offices, including the state Department of Motor Vehicles

Banks
Thurs., Nov. 24
Expect every bank to be closed (TD Bank, which is often open on holidays, will close) although banks in Connecticut may open at their discretion on holidays if they give prior notice.

Holiday Events
2011 Greenwich Reindeer Festival & Santa’s Workshop

Friday, Nov. 25: At 2 p.m., Santa and one of his four live reindeer, accompanied by police, firemen and public officials, will ride down Greenwich Avenue. Starting at First Presbyterian Church to McArdle’s, 48 Arch St., where the reindeer will reside for one month. There, families, children, corporate groups and pets can have their photo taken with Santa at his workshop.
