Movie House Renovations, Norwalk Teen Drowns, Missing Darien Teenager

News highlights from the region.

It's more than lights, camera and action at the New Canaan Playhouse. It's now also surround sound and digital projection, thanks to a $300,000 renovation and upgrade.

The 1928 playhouse is owned by the town, and leased by Bow Tie Cinemas, which has run the theater for the last five years. According to Chief Operating Officer Joseph Masher said, "We've brought the theater from the '60s into the 2010s."

Last year the to install improved seating at the Playhouse. Popcorn anyone?

Allan Nunez was constantly determined to overcome obstacles in his life and succeed in being able to do what he wanted.

His family and coaches remember him as continually striving to get around or plow through obstacles so he could be a better football or track and field athlete, or getting through school with learning disabilities.

And that determination may have been what when he got in an inflatable tube during a visit with friends to Candlewood Lake in New Milford. He persuaded his friends that he could swim well and use the tube in deeper water, his family said. When Allan slipped off the inner tube, however, all his athleticism couldn't save him, and there were no lifeguards at the park to save him, either

Police are seeking the public's help in locating Zachary Gallo, 16, of Darien.

Gallo is described as white, 5 feet 8 inches tall, and 185 lbs. with brown hair and brown eyes. Police said he is known to wear his hair slicked back and his jeans rolled up to his ankles.

The teenager was last seen by his parents between 11 and 11:30 p.m. Sunday at their Hoyt Street residence, police said. He was reported missing around 7 a.m. Monday.

Greenwich Public School officials that was scheduled to begin Monday night.

That comes weeks after all athletic fields at Greenwich High School were closed because of the discovery of contaminated soil at the auditorium construction site in mid-July. The soil contamination also means that high school seniors will not be able to invoke their right-of-passage: on-site parking. Officials are limiting parking to staff only. 

Work continues to remove the soil in the hopes that the parking lot at the rear of the school will be able to be open for the start of teacher orientation next week.

A Westport police officer was injured after being dragged by a scooter operated by a man who stole an empty keg of beer, town police said.

The while the officer was speaking to him. The officer suffered minor scrapes and injuries after he was dragged, while driver  toppled the scooter soon after.
