MTA: Extra Trains Planned for St. Pat's Parade; Alcohol Is Banned for the Day

A message from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

You don't need the luck of the Irish to travel to the St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday, March 16, at 11 a.m., thanks to the extra trains we'll be operating in addition to our regular Saturday schedule to and from the parade on our Hudson, Harlem and New Haven Lines.

Please note: On Saturday, March 16th, alcohol will not be allowed all day on trains, platforms and at stations. (MTA Police will enforce this restriction.)

We'll have extra inbound trains to make sure everyone gets to the parade, which begins at 44th Street, a convenient two blocks away from Grand Central Terminal!

After you've cheered yourself green, we'll have additional trains ready to take you home.

We'll also have extra cars on a select number of regularly scheduled inbound and outbound trains to ensure everyone gets to "go green" on time!

We strongly urge our customers to buy their roundtrip rail tickets before boarding at ticket machines and ticket offices. The costs for tickets purchased on board trains are significantly higher.

At select stations with anticipated higher ridership, tickets will be collected prior to boarding the train-see details below.

The following inbound service changes will be in effect for the New Haven line:

New Haven Line:
Note: At New Haven Station, tickets will be collected before boarding--buy your roundtrip tickets in advance at ticket machines and ticket offices. (Customers will not be allowed on platforms without a ticket.)

  • 9:21 AM from New Haven, stopping at Milford, Bridgeport, Harlem-125th Street, arriving GCT at 10:54 AM.
  • 9:48 AM from New Haven, stopping at Milford, Stratford, Bridgeport, Fairfield Metro, Fairfield, Westport, Harlem-125th Street, arriving GCT at 11:24 AM.

Also, the MTA has this reminder: Both escalators from the lower level to the North End Access will be out of service for an extended period of time to accommodate major repair work. Please use the elevators across from the escalators, or the stairs. You may also detour through the Main Concourse of Grand Central Terminal via the South end of the platform.

Seems to me you are missing the most obvious which is shown in the photo used at the top ofRead More Greenwich Patch pages - Grass Island Marina/Park is directly across the waterway. You won't be able to see much of the stage front but you can certainly enjoy the tunes.
