9/11 Ceremonies to be Held in Greenwich

Various organizations to mark tenth anniversary of terrorist attacks.

Numerous town organizations are planning events for this weekend to mark the tenth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

  • At 6 p.m., today, Friday, Sept. 9, the , 266 Glenville Road, will hold a dedication ceremony for its new , which incorporates an I-beam from the World Trade Center site. The monument will be dedicated to local victims of the terrorist attacks. The ceremony will be held in front of the firehouse.
  • At 10 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 11, there will be a service of remembrance held at , 395 Round Hill Road. The congregation's annual Rally Day Picnic, which is open to the public, will be held following the service at 11 a.m.
  • At 10:30 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 11, the , 139 E. Putnam Ave., will hold a 9/11 remembrance as part of its annual homecoming weekend. The service will be followed by a barbecue luncheon at 11:30 a.m.
  • At 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 11, the Town of Greenwich will hold its official ceremony for the victims of 9/11 and their families. The ceremony, to be held in front of , 101 Field Point Road, will reportedly include a presentation of a wreath and flowers, a 21-gun salute, and special tributes to the first responders who died.
  • At 3 p.m., Monday, Sept. 12, , 5 Perryridge Road, will hold a ceremony near the 9/11 memorial sculpture in the hospital's Carl and Dorothy Bennett Community Garden. The event will feature a keynote from Silas Seandel, the sculptor, who witnessed the attacks from his studio near ground zero.
