On Riversville Road: Water Main Project Moving Along

Project reportedly ahead of schedule, despite Irene's disruptions.

Contractors working on behalf of Aquarion Water Company are reportedly making progress on a water main replacement project currently underway on Riversville Road near its intersection with Glenville Road.

The problematic section of main ruptured on July 28, disrupting service and eroding part of the roadway at the intersection of Riversville and Glenville roads; and then again on Aug. 6, again disrupting water service to the neighborhood.

According to published reports the project is currently ahead of schedule — despite all the disruptions caused by Tropical Storm Irene — with completion estimated by the end of September.

As reported on Patch, the destroyed the intersection [of Riversville and Glenville roads], which had to be excavated to replace the broken main and then rebuilt.

The — which occurred about 5:30 p.m., Aug. 6, and resulted in the loss of service to four business and 46 residential customers — was caused by the , after the trench dug for the first break was back-filled, causing the main to break again. Repairs for the second break were completed about 1 a.m., Aug. 7.
