With clear skies and sunshine in the forecast, the unofficial last weekend of summer is poised for great times. Here are some of the events and ideas that top our "to do" list."

With clear skies and sunshine in the forecast, the unofficial last weekend of summer is poised for great times. Here are some of the events and ideas that top our “to do” list.”

Pig Roast and Wine Class

Details: Dive into a meaty Sunday dinner on Sunday. Barcelona Wine Bar’s Greenwich location is holding a “Sunday Pig Roast” complete with slow-roasted suckling pig, seasonal fresh veggies, mixed-green salad and flan. If pig’s not your game, the Spanish chain’s Fairfield location’s “Portugal Wine Tasting” is the perfect opportunity for wine lovers to learn and mingle.

Sales on Greenwich Avenue

Details: As usual, all of your favorite stores, from J Crew (126 Greenwich Ave., Greenwich; 203-661-5181) to Vineyard Vines (145 Greenwich Ave., Greenwich; 203-881-1603) to Lululemon (151 Greenwich Ave., Greenwich; 203-622-5046) are offering end-of-the-season discounts of 10 percent or more on select merchandise.

When: Friday-Monday; various hours. 

 

Swimming at the Pool or Park

Details: It’s not the last weekend to catch some rays, but it is the last weekend to swim outdoors at most Fairfield County pools, ponds and lakes. Lifeguards are on duty at Tod’s Point (aka Greenwich Point Park) and other local beaches and pools through Monday.

Where: Tod’s Point (Tod’s Driftway, at end of Shore Road), another Greenwich/Cos Cob park, or your neighbor’s pool.

When: Friday to Monday; 6 a.m. until sunset (lifeguard hours vary at city parks).

 

Silvermine Guild Group Show: "Crossroads"

Details: This exhibit showcases the artists’ perception of crossroads -- metaphorically, symbolically, spiritually or culturally.

Where: Silvermine Arts Center, New Canaan (203-966-9700)

When: Daily, through September 17.

 

Group Exhibition Opening Reception

Details: This independent art house is hosting a wine and cheese reception in honor of its latest group exhibit.  

Where: Blueberry Music & Art House, 135 Mason St., Greenwich (203-987-6445)

When: Sat., Sept. 3, 2-5 p.m.
