Plenty O' Green in Greenwich [VIDEO]

The 38th annual Greenwich Hibernians' St. Patrick's Parade draws thousands.

Legions of folks from the area braved the damp weather to celebrate with the Greenwich Hibernians at the 38th annual St. Patrick's Parade.

Downtown Greenwich was awash in a sea of green as onlookers watched and cheered the pipe bands, Irish dancing troupes, fire departments from Greenwich and lower Westchester County, marching bands, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, service organizations and local businesses. Greenwich volunteer firefighters were out in force as were fire companies from Cos Cob, Amerogene, Banksville, Port Chester and Mamaroneck, NY.

There were plenty of politicians and their families too. The Greenwich Board of Selectmen were there, along with U.S. Rep. Jim Himes of Cos Cob, state Reps. Livvy Floren and Fred Camillo, and state Sen. Scott Frantz.

Tailgating was de rigeur for parade-goers, some of whom have been doing it for years—claiming the same viewing spot with their friends. As one member of the 'Adams Avenue group' said, "Don't say we're tailgating—we're commiserating."

The Adams Avenue group have been gathering at their outpost by the Greenwich Library for 7 years. "We're from Port Chester but we have a lot of ties to Greenwich," said one green-shirted member.
