Suspected burglar caught after a foot chase

An Orchard Place resident apparently awakened by a noise, found a masked burglar in his kitchen, according to Greenwich Police. The suspect fled with the homeowner, who was naked, giving chase.

The resident caught the suspect, but backed off when it appeared the burglar had a weapon, police said. A short time later, a posse of Greenwich patrolmen and detectives caught the suspect, identified as Gideon Dunn, 29, of New York City, nearly a mile away.

The suspect had several items taken from the home, which is near Bruce Park.

Commuters will have a chance to share their thoughts with state officials later this month on the  ?

The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced a series of public hearings on fare hikes planned for rail and bus systems across the state. Locally, hearings are set for Tuesday, Aug. 23 at UConn Stamford's General Re Auditorium (1 University Pl.). Two sessions are scheduled, one from 4 to 6 p.m. and a second from 7 to 9 p.m.

ConnDOT puts the proposed hike at about 16.4 percent, followed by an additional 1 percent increase each Jan. 1 through 2018. The initial hike would take place on or after Nov. 1 of this year.

 

Driver fleeing cop checkpoint causes 3-car crash

A car involved in a rollover crash Tuesday night opposite police headquarters was stolen in Bridgeport and had already been involved in a two-car collision in Norwalk.

Both occupants of the car were arrested; one of whom remained
in Norwalk Hospital Wednesday morning as a result of injuries he sustained when the car rolled over and slammed into a beauty supply store on South Main Street.

 

Panel formed to probe Metro Center cost overruns

A bipartisan committee to investigate the multi-million dollar overage in the Metro Center project was unanimously approved by the Fairfield Representative Town Meeting (RTM) at a special meeting.

The RTM also approved an additional $15,000 for the audit of the massive project – and its projected $2.4 million to $6.4 million overrun.

“We need to work together. We owe it to our fellow representatives and our constituents to ensure all of their questions on the Metro Center are answered,” said Majority Leader Jamie Millington.

 

$500 reward offered for info about Stamford hit-and-run

The Stamford Police Department is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the identification of the vehicle and arrest of the driver responsible for hitting Miguel Otero, 46, according to a statement released Wednesday by Sgt. Andrew Gallagher.

Otero was critically injured when he was struck by a white gold 1999 to 2004 Land Rover Discovery (Series 2 model), early Sunday on South State Street near Atlantic Street. Police said the driver fled, leaving Otero with severe head injuries laying in the roadway, along with broken parts and debris from the car.
