Records on Greenwich Plastic Surgeon to Remain Private

The approximately 220 documents will only be seen by those directly involved in the case, according to a report in the Greenwich Time.

A state Superior Court judge has ordered that sensitive documents on plastic surgeon Ian Rubins will not be made public during an upcoming trial resulting from a negligence lawsuit brought against the hospital scheduled to begin April 16, 2013.

Judge Salvatore C. Agati ordered Monday that the approximately 220 documents will only be seen by those directly involved in the case, according to a report in the Greenwich Time.

The lawsuit filed in January 2010 by Diane and Scott Buchanan of Newtown alleges that Diane Buchanan suffered serious complications after undergoing three cosmetic procedures carried out by Rubins, who died from a heroin overdose in 2008, according to the report. The lawsuit alleges that hospital officials allowed Rubins to continue to carry out procedures even though hospital staff was aware he had a drug problem.

Last month Judge Agati ordered that most of the documents be turned over to the court to be used as evidence at trial.

The hospital must turn over the documents, which may reveal how much hospital officials knew of Rubins' problems, by Nov. 28.
