Sixth Annual John Zumbo Scholarship Race to be Held Oct. 2

The John D. Zumbo Memorial Scholarship Fund annually awards two scholarships to Greenwich High School seniors who are planning to pursue a career in fitness or health-related area in college.

The Sixth Annual John Zumbo Scholarship Race benefitting the John D. Zumbo Memorial Scholarship Fund will be held starting at 9 a.m., Sunday, October 2, at the picnic grounds at Bruce Park.

The 5K course winds around a series of lovely ponds, rolling hills, and naturally wooded areas that overlook Indian Harbor. Runners, walkers, strollers, and pets are welcome. T-shirts will be given to all registrants, and prizes will be awarded in several categories. Small children can race for free in their own competitive event to be held at the picnic area.

Funds raised through the race will benefit the John D. Zumbo Memorial Scholarship Fund, which annually awards two scholarships to Greenwich High School seniors who are planning to pursue a career in fitness or health-related area in college. The scholarship is managed by the Greenwich Scholarship Association.

The scholarship was established in memory of John Zumbo and celebrates his love of health and fitness. John, a life-long resident of Greenwich and personal trainer, died in a tragic automobile accident in 2006 at the age of 28.

All those interested in fitness and having fun are welcome to join in the event. Registration is required.
