Spooked By Snow Before Halloween

A rare October storm blankets the area - trees down, power outages rise with snowfall predictions,

It seemed like just yesterday that Hurricane Irene unleashed her fury on Fairfield County, causing significant tree damage and a record number of power outages. Mother Nature is about to announce her presence with authority once again.

The Weather Channel and The National Weather Service are calling for strong winds, heavy rain, and wet snow that is expected to arrive in the area sometime this afternoon and go well into the night. Forecasters are predicting that as much as four inches of snow couldl fall in the area. With the heavy winds, there is the potential for fallen trees and downed power lines, which could lead to outages like we saw courtesy of Irene.

The message from CL&P is the same as it was after Hurricane Irene. If you see trees down on power lines or lines in the street, do not go near them. Call the utility company or local police officals to notify them of the location of the downed lines.
