Upper Crust: 2K Bagels in 10 Hours

Old Greenwich bakery to offer heart-shaped bagels on Valentine's Day.

Though the bagel output at Old Greenwich's Upper Crust Bagel Company may make a layman's head spin—it's in the thousands—bakery employee Carla doesn't bat an eye when sounding off.

"We go through between 1,000 and 2,000 bagels everyday," she said Wednesday afternoon, shortly before closing the iconic bakery down for the day.

Open from 6 a.m to 4 p.m. on weekdays, that's a staggering 150 bagels an hour—to say nothing of the muffins, scones and other confections that line the business' shelves.
