What's Open, Closed on Labor Day

Labor Day: What's open and closed in Greenwich on Monday, Sept. 3, 2012.

Labor Day is held on the first Monday in September each year.

Unofficially the last day of summer, the holiday, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, "constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country." Oregon was the first state to make it a holiday in 1887. By the time it became a federal holiday in 1894, 30 states officially celebrated Labor Day.
