Blankley: Democrats Have 'A Team for Change and Renewal'

Democrats are fielding a top team in this November’s municipal elections. For First Selectman we have Beth Krumeich, a successful attorney, former President of the League of Women Voters and Drew Marzullo, a supervisor with the Greenwich Emergency Medical Service and an enormously well-respected incumbent two-term Selectman.

Democrats are proud to present two such excellent candidates with experience and vision to give voters a real choice in both style and policy substance across a range of issues vital to Greenwich’s future. The problems they are going to address include: underfunding of our public school system, a failure properly to maintain town buildings and infrastructure and the inexplicable folly of not using long term debt to finance major capital projects. These failings can fairly be laid at the feet of Republicans who dominate our town’s government in what is in effect one-party rule.

I tried to break the logjam two years ago, without success, and to my dismay all the problems evident then are with us still. We can list school performance that continues to slip in peer comparisons, dilapidated buildings like the eastern Greenwich Civic center, the atrocious state of the pool in Byram park, the undredged Binney pond, the lack of a harbor plan, poor fire safety coverage in the King Street area and still unresolved issues of emergency response for the apparently regular “hundred year” storms.

We need leaders with initiative who are prepared to recognize what needs fixing, and execute solutions. Drew has shown very effective leadership on matters of great local concern such as gun control and bullying. With Beth as First Selectman I know we will see progress on schools, infrastructure and safety and the Krumeich/Marzullo team will together be an amazing force for change and renewal.

Join me in voting for Beth Krumeich and Drew Marzullo in November and let us bring an end to long decades of neglect.
