Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund Receives National Honor for Three Programs

The Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund and its utility partners, Connecticut Light and Power (CL&P)  and The United Illuminating Company (UI), announced today that the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), a nonprofit research group based in Washington, D.C., has recognized three of its Conservation and Load Management programs, all of which are administered by CL&P and UI.  As part of a national awards program reviewed by an expert panel that honors America’s leading energy efficiency programs, the Small Business Energy Advantage, Residential New Construction and Home Energy Solutions programs were named “Exemplary” programs.

Programs selected for this honor were judged to be especially noteworthy for their effectiveness and innovation in helping customers achieve greater levels of energy efficiency in their homes, businesses, and industries. “These programs are delivering energy savings that are critical in helping customers reduce their energy costs, plus they make an important environmental contribution by reducing pollution from the use of fossil fuels,” noted ACEEE Utilities Program Director Dan York, Ph.D.

“ACEEE conducted this national review to recognize outstanding energy efficiency programs and honor the people and organizations responsible for their success,” explained Seth Nowak, ACEEE’s lead analyst on this review.  “Programs like the Energy Efficiency Fund’s Residential and Commercial & Industrial programs demonstrate the very real value of energy efficiency to the customers it serves.”

“We are especially grateful to receive this designation because it demonstrates the commitment, put forth by the Fund, CL&P and UI, to help Connecticut residents and businesses owners learn more about energy efficiency best practices, and we would like to thank ACEEE and the review panel for recognizing these efforts,” said Daniel C. Esty, Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), who also serves as Chairman of the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Board.  “Through educating and empowering residents and businessesalike to make smart, informed energy choices, these programs are a key component of the new Energize Connecticut initiative, which was launched as part of Governor Malloy’s Comprehensive Energy Strategy geared towards making our state number one in energy efficiency.”

The Energy Efficiency Fund’s Home Energy Solutions program was named Exemplary in the “Residential HVAC” category, while the Small Business Energy Advantage program was named Exemplary in the “Small Business” category.  The Residential New Construction program earned its Exemplary designation in the "Residential New Construction” category.
