Dr. Gregory Sterling to Speak at RHCC

Developing Faith Leaders for the 21st Century: Dr. Gregory Sterling, Dean of Yale Divinity School, to Speak on October 11 

Dr. Gregory E. Sterling, Dean of Yale Divinity School, will speak at the Round Hill Community Church in Greenwich, on Friday, October 11, at 7:30pm. Dr. Sterling’s lecture will be the third in a series presented by the Round Hill Community Church, designed to explore the topic of developing leaders of faith for the 21st century. The two previous speakers in this series have been Dr. Heidi Hadsell, President of Hartford Seminary and Dr. Serene Jones, President of Union Theological Seminary. Everyone is invited to meet Dr. Sterling at a reception immediately following the lecture, in the Church Parlor.

Prior to being appointed Dean of Yale Divinity, Dr. Sterling spend more than two decades at the University of Notre Dame, where he served in several capacities at the College of Arts and Letters before becoming the first Dean of the independent Graduate School.  He has written extensively about interactions between Jews and early Christians. His interests run from Plato to Josephus and his experience spans Catholic understanding and a Protestant upbringing. He is currently finishing his latest book titled, "Defining the Present through the Past."

• His understanding of both Protestant and Catholic liturgy and where he plans to lead others; 

• Given the critical issues of economic justice in America, growing poverty, increased polarity of political views, dysfunctional decision making, a transitioning international identity, what is the role of divinity schools such as Yale in bolstering and guiding the religious audiences of today toward a tomorrow;

• Where does the role of laity fit into this picture?

This is a just a start for what promises to be a lively and important conversation! 

Dr. Sterling will lecture on Friday, October 11 at 7:30PM in the Round Hill Community Church Sanctuary. There will be time for questions following the lecture, and an opportunity to meet Dr. Sterling at a reception immediately following the discussion, in the Church Parlor.
