Celebrating excellence and character. Not for just a day … but always.

The Darien Old Timers Athletic Association will hold the 51st Annual Sports Award Dinner on Monday, 12 November 2012, at The Waters Edge at Giovanni’s on the Darien border with Stamford. The function of this very popular dinner is to recognize the accomplishments of old time Darien athletes and coaches, to meet with old friends and reminisce about days gone by, and to recognize those who support the opportunity for athletics to be part of the educational and growing experience in Darien.

The honorees this year include James J. Costello, a Local Honoree who was an all star baseball player through Darien Little League, Darien Babe Ruth League and Darien High School; Kenneth H. Rawn, a Local Honoree who was an outstanding three sport athlete at Darien High School and high school football coach; Daniel David Delinski, a Local Honoree who was an outstanding pitcher for the Darien Little League, the Darien Babe Ruth League, the Darien American League, and the Darien Junior and Senior High Schools, with many honors and awards to his credit; Steve Norris, the Male Achievement Honoree, who is the legendary coach of many state champion Darien High School Girls Cross Country and Track Teams; Tom Spangenberg, a Local Honoree, who was an outstanding Darien High School and All-Ivy League [Dartmouth] football player; Kei Usami, the James Carlson Honoree for Overcoming Adversity, who was a member of the Darien High School and Fordham University Tennis Teams; the Weymann Sisters – Vail, Alex, and Josie – the Female Achievement Honorees, who helped build Darien High School’s Girls Volley Ball Team into a perennial State Champion; and the Darien Kiwanis Club, who is the Civic Achievement Honoree.

Tickets for the banquet are available by calling Charles Saverine at the Darien Town at 203-656-7347, Harold Curtis at 203-655-7073, or Greg Palmer at Palmer’s Super Market at 203-655-2077.
