Community Corner

Free Memory Screening

To help mark November as National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month, River House is taking part in hosting the tenth annual National Memory Screening Day, an annual initiative of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA).   The community is invited to participate in free, confidential memory screenings between 10:00am and 12:00pm on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at River House.

National Memory Screening Day serves as a jump off point for discussions about memory concerns and lifestyle changes that can help individuals with the aging process.  According to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, approximately 5.1 million Americans have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and after age of 65, the number of incidences doubles every five years.

Each screening takes about five to ten minutes using a series of questions and tasks to determine if memory problems are present.  Please note that the screening is not used to diagnose illness but rather allow individuals to know whether or not to seek medical advice.
