KEEPING KIDS OUT OF PRISON

KEEPING
KIDS OUT OF PRISON

Teens
can learn about the legal system and its’ operations at a “Keeping Kids out of
Prison” seminar sponsored by Watchdogs for Justice (WFJ), a nonprofit organization
established for the specific purpose of decreasing the number of young people
entering the criminal justice system. The free seminar is March 22, 2014 from 2
to 4 p.m. at the Wesley Chapel-William C. Brown Library in Decatur.

Five attorneys and a private investigaror will discuss a variety of topics from armed robbery,
automobile theft, possession of crack cocaine, possession of marijuana, underage
drinking, theft by receiving stolen property and the prison sentences
associated with the crimes.

The seminar will consist of interactive skits and are
based on cases they have handled in court.
Most of the youngsters can relate to the stories based on their own
personal experience or that of a friend or relative.

Participants
also will learn about their fourth, fifth and sixth amendment rights, what to
do if stopped by the police, and get answers to question they have about the
system.
