Professional Screenwriter holds a Screenwriting Workshop for High School Students

Professional film and television writer, GiGi New, will hold
a two-day workshop (Sat, Oct 19 from 10:00-2:00 and Sun, Oct 20 from
10:00-2:00) at the Performing Arts Conservatory of New Canaan. The workshop will
introduce high school students to the fundamentals of screenwriting. “The
students will attack specific elements of story and format such as: character
development, theme, point of view, stakes, obstacles and conflict. They will explore
what makes for a well-rounded script. Questions such as, Does your first page
pop?  Is your dialogue strong? Is the
story tracking? Also, What is required of a writer when they set out to put
their idea on the page? will be examined in detail. There will be fun exercises
that get “out of our head” and get words on to the page” explains GiGi of the
workshop.

GiGi,
founder of New Way Writer, is thrilled to be leading this fun, intensive, and
illuminating workshop that explores the principals of screenwriting. GiGi began
her career as a writer assistant on the Emmy Award winning Everybody Loves Raymond.  Her
first screenplay Everybody Wants Some caught
the attention of The Walt Disney Company, where she was a Fellowship Finalist.
That honor led to developing projects with Gunn Films Agua Entertainment, and
Underground Films. She continues to develop projects for both film and
television. Her original screenplay Charmed
and Dangerous
is scheduled to start production next spring.

As a
teacher and consultant, GiGi draws tremendous rewards from teaching. Her
students and clients have projects ranging from winning Festival Competitions
to working with award winning producers such as Scott Rudin. GiGi explains, “To
see a writer have a creative breakthrough and be a part of that is truly exciting.
Writing is hard work. It takes enormous dedication.  But when it clicks, that feeling of
accomplishment is transformative.” GiGi lives in New Canaan with her husband
Nick Sadler, an actor and director, and their son Cooper, who attends East
School.
