Young Adult Access Center Open House - October 9th

There will be an Open House on Wednesday, October 9th to showcase the exciting new Young Adult Access Center (YAC) recently formed in Greenwich.  The event will run from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on the second floor of the Greenwich YMCA.

The YAC provides a group experience for young adults (18-25 years) to come socialize, stay connected and work on building life skills.  This group is based on a consumer council model and is facilitated by clinicians and peers from the F.S. Dubois Center in collaboration with the Greenwich Department of Social Services.  While the groupis designed to be fun, engaging, and non-stigmatizing it is also equipped to help people who may be struggling with mental health and/or substance abuse issues.

Young adults a.k.a. "the facebook generation" are invited to come socialize "old school," or face-to-face.  They have been enjoying playing ping-pong, Wii dance and other Wii sports as well as listening to music, designing a facebook page and playing assorted board games.  The group will be self-directed continuing to develop its interests over time with options to participate in community events, field trips and other activities.  A good time is being had by all with food and fun each week for this drop-in program.  The regularly scheduled meeting time is Wednesdays from 1-3:00 PM at the Greenwich YMCA.

Any questions please contact Patsy Sschumacher of the Greenwich Department of Social Services (203) 622-3719, or Dr. Robert Colen of the F.S. Dubois Center at (203) 388-1590.
