Radio Personality Mark Simone to Host “Under the Stars” Fundraiser;
Channel 7 Eyewitness News Meteorologist and Old Greenwich Resident Bill Evans to serve as Auctioneer
GREENWICH, Conn. (June 28, 2012) – Radio personality Mark Simone will be the Master of Ceremonies for “Under the Stars” on Friday, July 13 at the Riverside Yacht Club to benefit pediatric and neonatal care at Greenwich Hospital. Annette Bond, MD, Greenwich Hospital’s director of perinatology will be honored at this popular summer fundraiser. The festivities run from 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. with music by Calypso Hurricane.
Simone will bring his star-power to an evening which will feature dining and dancing along with live, silent and wine auctions.
“We are thrilled and honored to have Mark Simone as our host,” said Mini Nunna of Greenwich. “He is a true entertainer who will be a spectacular addition to the night.” Nunna is chairing “Under the Stars” with Deborah Wood, also of Greenwich, and Jessica Reardon of Norwalk.
One of the longest running and most entertaining voices on the New York radio dial, Simone’s broadcasts on WABC-AM are a lively blend of important issues, interesting stories and blockbuster guests. During his 30-year career, Simone has hosted a variety of interview, music and comedy shows including one with legendary comedian, Steve Allen. In addition to his Saturday morning talk show and Saturday evening entertainment show, Simone fills in for ABC radio hosts Don Imus, Mark Levin and Sean Hannity and occasionally appears on CNN, MSNBC and PBS. He co-hosts "What a Week” on NY1 television with New York Post Columnist Linda Stasi.
In addition to Simone, the event will feature Channel 7 Eyewitness News Meteorologist Bill Evans, a resident of Old Greenwich, who will head up the evening’s live auction that includes a behind the scenes tour of the ABC studios, a dinner party prepared by celebrity chef and Iron Chef America judge, Lorilynn Bauer, a golf getaway to Pinehurst, North Carolina and a week of luxury accommodations in the Riviera Maya, Mexico, among other exciting packages.
Evans, best known for his energetic and often amusing live weather broadcasts on location all over the tri-state area, is a 12-time Emmy Award winning weather anchor for Eyewitness News in the Morning and Eyewitness News at Noon. He also forecasts the weather on WPLJ-FM radio’s Scott & Todd in the Morning and on WGCH Business Talk Radio in Greenwich. When he’s not predicting the weather, Evans is a bestselling author with four novels to his credit, the most recent, “Blackmail Earth,” was released in June. His first children’s book about the weather, “It’s Raining Fish and Spiders,” was released in April of this year.
Proceeds from “Under the Stars” will benefit the Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Department at Greenwich Hospital. The state-of-the-art NICU provides round-the-clock care to newborns who need specialized medical attention. The Pediatric Department offers a full range of inpatient and outpatient services to address the medical and development needs of children from birth through adolescence.
