Greenwich Alliance's "Digital Divide" Seeks to Raise Funds [PatchWorks]

PatchWorks—a new neighborhood platform that can help you raise money and recruit volunteers—is helping neighbors to share and celebrate local projects and causes with the community.

Here's a look at one of Greenwich's current PatchWorks projects, Greenwich Alliance for Education's "Digital Divide."

A. Digital Divide is a grant program funded by the Greenwich Alliance for Education.  It provides desk top computers and internet connections for secondary school students without this basic educational resource at home.

Q. Why is this project important to the community?

A. When Greenwich became “disconnected” by the impact of Hurricane Sandy we all realized how our lives revolve around getting, sending or researching information through our cable connections. Funding Digital Divide will make it possible for the Alliance to “connect” digitally excluded student households to their teachers and class assignments, fellow students for collaborative projects and research, Greenwich Public School communications, Naviance and college information, and more.

Q. What inspires you to volunteer or be active in your community?

A. I have been a volunteer and an active community member since 1998 when we moved to Greenwich and my oldest child entered the public schools. It is inspiring to work with others -parents, friends, teachers, students, my children - to make “something happen” which makes a difference.

Q. What do you love about your community?

A. I love the small town feel of the Memorial Day Parade in Old Greenwich and the diversity of Greenwich High School for my children and our family.

Q. Anything you'd like to add?

A. Please donate to Digital Divide and help the Greenwich Alliance fund this project.
