TV BASEBALL COVERAGE....TOO MUCH INFORMATION- TOO LITTLE OF THE GAME!

I may be a lone voice crying in the wilderness but has it annoyed anyone else that the FOX coverage of the ALCS, especially the commentary of Joe Buck and Tim McCarver is annoying and actually detracts from the game?  The commentators are overly driven to provide ancient statistics and irrelevant facts from the distant past that they ignore the actual play by play!  Who cares about an obscure statistic from 1923 when there is man on second in a 1-0 ballgame!  It is a further irritant when the production folks decide to put up an on screen graphic blocking out a view of the action!  We all know that this prolific outpouring of information does not come from either McCarver of Buck’s deep knowledge of the game but rather from a very efficient computer database! Perhaps they are simply overly compelled to use the latest toys in the booth. Also, why take away from the game by interviewing managers and coaches when they obviously are not going to say anything relevant to the game and clearly only wish to get back to doing their job!

What a joy it is to listen to radio baseball play by play, that’s right, play by play that follows the natural ebb and flow of the game. That pacing is very much a part of baseball.  Nothing wrong with a little crowd noise between pitches and as for Tim and Joe a little more silence would be a blessing. Lets not forget that part of the pleasure of watching or listening to a baseball game is absorbing the action for oneself.
