Story Barn Workshop

Story Barn Workshop and Performance with Comedienne Bonnie Levison

The art of storytelling has recently experienced an incredible resurgence in American culture as evidenced by the popularity of The Moth, Snap Judgment, and Story Corp, programs that all feature the extraordinary experiences of everyday people.

In January, Greenwich Historical Society board member and standup comedienne Bonnie Levison will lead a storytelling workshop culminating in a Story Barn performance at the Historical Society on Friday, February 1, 2013. Past Story Barn themes have often tied into exhibitions at the Historical Society, but in honor of these premiere performances, the field will be wide open and aptly entitled "Mixed Bag."

In a three-session workshop, participants will learn to develop and craft their personal tales. The first session will focus on the principles of storytelling and individual idea development; the second session will look at developing the arc of the story; the third will consist of fine tuning the story and developing its presentation. There will be an optional fourth session to prepare for the performance.

Whether you want to become more relaxed speaking in front of a crowd, be the life of the party or aspire to follow in the footsteps of Jerry Seinfeld, this is a fun way to learn to spin a good yarn and hone your public speaking skills.

Workshop leader, multi-talented Bonnie Levison has been performing standup comedy and storytelling on a wide variety of stages for many years. She is a storytelling instructor for MothShop, the community and corporate education program for The Moth, a nonprofit organization based in New York City dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling. She also founded the Nantucket Comedy Festival.
