Toys for Tots Drive This Weekend in Cos Cob and Banksville

'Tis the "season to be jolly" and volunteers are hoping you'll help make the holiday season just that for underprivileged children.

This weekend, organized by Ronnie and Jack Kriskey, there will be two Toys for Tots drives on Saturday — the Cos Cob Volunteer Fire Department and at the Banksville Community House. The Kriskeys have organized the annual drive for more than eight years.

The toys, which are given to the U.S. Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, which will be collected in vehicles supplied by the fire department and the Greenwich Police Department. Each department volunteered to supply the collection vehicles when the Marines could not provide them.

Members of Greenwich PD who are U.S. Marine veterans — about 10 percent of the department — also will be at the two collection points, according to Police Chief James Heavey.

Toys at the Cos Cob Volunteer Fire Department from 10 a.m. to noon where Santa Claus will visit at 11 a.m., and at the Banksville Community House from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Santa also is expected to drop by at noon.

The police department's Sept. 11 memorial motorcycle and an antique fire truck also will be on display with Officer Dan Hendrie of the department's Motorcycle Unit.
