A New Greenwich Thanksgiving tradition!

Despite the cold weather on November 30th, over 900 enthusiastic runners and walkers worked off their Thanksgiving calories at our 3rd Annual  Greenwich Alliance for Education Turkey Trot 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk. Racers were warmed up and ready to compete thanks to Bill Bogardus, Director of Greenwich Track Club.  The Greenwich Police Department, GEMS, and 50 volunteers manned the Bruce Park course to keep runners safe. Included in those volunteers were students and teachers from AVID, an Alliance funded college readiness system at Greenwich High School.  Thanks to donations from our sponsors, post-race music and snacks were enjoyed by all at the Arch Street Teen Center.  Again this year was the friendly school competition initiated to encourage participation of school age children. We congratulate all student runners and give special recognition to Julian Curtiss Elementary for having the greatest proportion of participants.  We are thankful to Lightfoot Running Club for providing computerized timing.

Our sincere thanks go to all of our sponsors:

Our biggest thanks goes to all of you in the community who came out to race, walk, cheer, donate, or volunteer. The Alliance believes educating kids is a shared community responsibility and the Turkey Trot is a perfect example of the community coming together to make a difference for Greenwich kids.

Look for yourself and your neighbors in the photos on the Greenwich Alliance for Education Facebook page and website.  5K race results are posted on our website, www.greenwichalliance.org. Congratulations to all who participated.

If you couldn’t join the fun this year, we look forward to seeing you next year!
