There's Nothing to Be Chicken About ...

It's something to cluck about - this rooster needs a good home ... or a good farm.

Meet the newest addition to the menagerie at animal control, a rooster named Cluckster. This little guy belongs on a farm – one either nearby or far from Greenwich.  Any farmers among us should consider adding Cluckster to the barnyard mix.

Judging from the small nubs on Cluckster’s legs that will later become spurs and the fact that he lacks an adult red “glove” on his head, Cluckster is still young, and therefore less likely to be territorial. This means he could potentially join an existing rooster on a farm, or if he could be housed separately, he could look after his own henhouse.

What everyone wants to know is: How does a rooster wind up homeless on the streets of Greenwich? Cluckster was found in a backyard in Old Greenwich and animal control surmises he may have escaped during transport. It’s anyone’s guess really. Maybe someone thought Cluckster was Cluckstrissa the hen, and then realized that the error in judgment would result in a 4 a.m. cocka-doodle-doo. In any event, once animal control officers corralled him against a fence and a sheet was tossed over him, Cluckster acted like a rooster and froze. From there, he was taken to the North Street facility where he awaits word of a farmer who will adopt him.

Cluckster is young, healthy and currently pacing his pen and sharing his vocal repertoire with the neighborhood. If anyone is a farmer or knows one, Cluckster would appreciate it if you would forward this story link and help put out the word on his lonely condition. Please call Animal Control at (203) 622-8299 if you’re interested in Cluckster.

The facility, located at 393 North St., is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; and 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. (But call ahead to make sure the staff is there and not out rescuing another animal.)
