Community Concert Kenny Vance and the Planatones & The Crystals Roger Sherman Baldwin Park

They're Back!
The pale-colored, sensible cotten-blend clothing residents are back! Giving way to their winter break location (Florida)... And this evening they descended onto Baldwin Park for the Silver Shield Community Concert Kenny Vance and the Planatones & The Crystals.  And, as the weary, weathered faces of the dutiful husbands carrying the lawn chairs and coolers toward the beautiful green lawn that is serving up the free concert tonight, I'm elated that it's finally summer. The Greenwich Concert Summer Series is under way and tonight, it looks like the makings of a great Doo Wop night! A sixty something attractive woman hurries her mom up, "I want a seat toward the front, come on!" she tells her 80 something year old mom, who hasn't seen a weather report since March, she is mistakenly in a Mickey Mouse sweatshirt and long blue pants.
This looks for the makings of a great night by early 1960's musical groundbreaking band, the Crystals, at Sherman Park. I heard the warm-up and it sounded just like they did on my AM radio station growing up. This legendary band sang great songs like  "There's No Other", "Uptown", "He's Sure the Boy I Love", "He's a Rebel", "Da Doo Ron Ron (When He Walked Me Home)" and "Then He Kissed Me", featured three successive female lead singers, and were all produced by Phil Spector.Ironically, he couldn't make it!
