Two Visions for America's Future

A comparison of the two futures and the policies of a Romney-Ryan presidency versus an Obama-Biden redux.

Last Thursday night brought the two different visions of America's future offered by Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan versus Barack Obama and Joe Biden into sharper focus.

The Romney-Ryan Presidency will be one of Equal Opportunity as opposed to the Obama-Biden future of Equal Misery. America was founded on the idea that if people work hard, the opportunity to achieve is here for them. Obama-Biden seem to think that the American ideal is one with a cradle to grave "nanny- state

government" which by providing a low level of necessities, thereby controls its citizens' lives. My family escaped a communist dictatorship in Cuba and succeeded in America as the result of hard work and perseverance. It troubles me to hear the ads on the radio (paid for by our taxes) extolling the virtues of being on food stamps, receiving Obama phones and Obama mortgage relief (yes, I have heard that!). The idea that we are entitled to things we have not earned is anathema to me. The idea that the government is buying votes for Obama with our taxes is abhorrent to me. I believe in a safety net below which no one should fall, but the assistance we give should be for a limited time and should include training or work requirements to enable people to get back on their feet. The goal is to develop self-reliance and pride in their achievements and success which result from their own efforts.

The Romney-Ryan Presidency will be one of strong, steady leadership based on American values and ideals in Foreign Policy as opposed to the Obama-Biden continuation of leading from behind and abandoning our allies which has degraded all of our relationships abroad and lost the respect that the US once enjoyed internationally. Whether it is our relationship with Israel or our handling of the Arab spring or the murder of our ambassador and 3 other Americans in Libya, this Administration's policies have failed. Prospects for Peace between Israel and the Palestinians are more remote, we have weak relationships with the new governments in the Middle East after betraying leaders who had supported us, Iran is laughing at us as their centrifuges continue to spin, producing more and more fissile material and getting perilously closer to producing nuclear weapons. "China's rapid economic growth, and its sharply increasing military expenditures are dramatically changing the strategic map of the world. Meanwhile the potential for conflict with an authoritarian China could rise as its power grows, the United States must pursue policies designed to encourage Beijing to embark on a course that makes conflict less likely. Mitt Romney will implement a strategy that makes the path of regional hegemony for China far more costly than the alternative path of becoming a responsible partner in the international system." The Romney-Ryan Presidency will insure a future of Energy Independence and the resultant jobs, economic prosperity and liberation of our foreign policy. The Obama-Biden future is one of increasing dependence on our enemies or in some cases "frenemies"such as Saudi Arabia and the rest of OPEC, Venezuela, Brazil and others, a continued downward spiral in our economy due to ever-increasing energy prices, fewer jobs and the opportunity costs of the economic development we will not experience. "Dramatically increasing domestic energy production can bolster the competitiveness of virtually every industry in the country, creating millions of new jobs from coast to coast. With fewer energy imports and more exports of manufactured goods, America’s trade deficit will decline and the dollar will strengthen. The benefits even extend beyond immediate economic growth. Compare that to President Obama, who has described his own energy policy as a “hodgepodge,” sent billions of taxpayer dollars to failed green energy projects run bypolitical cronies, rejected the Keystone XL Pipeline as not in “the national interest,” and sought repeatedly to stall development of America’s domestic resources. Rather than embrace the nation’s abundant energy resources, the President has used endless delays, reviews, litigation, and overregulation to both slow their development and elevate his chosen “green” alternatives. He has
imposed regulations designed to “bankrupt” the coal industry, and his Administration was held in contempt of federal court for illegally imposing a moratorium on drilling in the Gulf of Mexico." (mittromney/com/issues/energy)
He has outsourced American jobs and resources to Brazil, sending oil platforms, billions of American tax dollars and jobs there, saying that we will be Brazil's "best customer." He has allowed China and Cuba to drill for oil off the coast of Florida but will not allow American companies to do so. His rejection of the Keystone pipeline has forced Canada to sell the oil to China and has killed thousands of jobs in America.

Check out Mitt Romney's Energy policy that "will result in a successful national energy strategy that will have a fundamental influence on the well-being of the nation. The benefits even extend beyond immediate economic growth. The lease payments, royalties, and taxes paid to the American people in return for the development of our resources will yield more than a trillion of dollars in new government revenue over time, (thereby eliminating the need for tax increases to raise revenues).  And all Americans can rest assured that the nation’s security is no longer beholden to unstable but oil-rich regions half way around the world."

The Romney-Ryan Presidency is one of Freedom of Choice-Flexibility-Free Market Competition and Accessibility in Healthcare versus the Obama-Biden world of Government Controlled Socialized Medicine. If you like going to the DMV, you will love Obamacare! Personally, I do not want the government in the examining room with my doctor and me. I have been told by friends who are doctors that they have been advised that under Obamacare, when they see a patient, they will be required to send the diagnosis directly to a board in Washington, using a hand held computer/device. They will then receive three or four options for courses of treatment that they must follow, whether they agree or not. If they do not follow the dictates of the Board, they will be fined $100,000 for the first violation. With the second violation, the doctor will go to jail! As for keeping our own insurance, we have already lost ours thanks to Obamacare! We were dropped because our company is too small. We had to find another plan that is more expensive for less coverage. Thank you Barack Obama, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi!

A Romney-Ryan Presidency means a Balanced Budget and the restoration of our AAA Credit rating. An Obama-Biden re-election means more trillion dollar deficits, non-existent budgets, even lower credit ratings: think Greece and Spain. A Romney-Ryan Presidency means real Tax Reform that will help and expand the middle class as opposed to the Obama-Biden promise to increase taxes by another $2 trillion, after already raising them 19 times on the middle class. In Obama-Biden speak, anyone who is not on food stamps is a millionaire or billionaire and is therefore fair game for a tax increase. People and small businesses that earn $200,000 a year are not millionaires by anyone's standard, except Obama's. Romney's plan will lower tax rates for everyone and eliminate some deductions and loopholes for the wealthy. What is so hard to understand about that? There is no $5 trillion tax cut for the wealthy. That has been thoroughly debunked.  As a politician once said that " those who don’t have fresh ideas use stale tactics," and that "...when you have no record to run on, you paint your opponent as someone people should run from.” (Barack Hussein Obama, 2008)

A Romney-Ryan Presidency means a strong Defense that will ensure our security and will ascertain that our men and women in the military have the means and equipment they need to accomplish their missions.  An Obama-Biden redux means massive cuts that will leave America with the defense levels of the mid-20th Century. Ronald Reagan said: "Of the four wars in my lifetime, none came about because the US was too strong!" A strong well-equipped military and a steady clear policy is our best insurance for peace and security.

There are other issues on which I could elaborate and other reasons to support Mitt Romney for President but for now I will close, leaving more to say later. Stay tuned!  Please do check out www.mittromney.com.
