About Jim Gorant
Jim has worked as a magazine editor and writer since 1990, the last ten as a senior editor at Sports Illustrated. Prior to joining SI, Gorant wrote for GQ, Men's Journal, Men's Health, OUtside, Sports Afield, and Popular Science, among others. His previous books include The Lost Dogs: Michael Vick's Dogs and Their Tale of Rescue and Redemption, Fit for Golf (with Boris Kuzmic), and Fanatic: 10 Things All Sports Fans Should Do Before They Die.

About Wallace
Saved from a suspicious beeder, Wallace was a dog with so much drive and intensity that he flustered the people and dogs around him to the point that the no-kill shelter where he ended up considered putting him down. But where some saw menace, Roo and Clara Yori saw misunderstanding. After a long fight they were allowed to take Wallace home.

Determined to give Wallace the focus and support he needed, the Yoris stumbled into the world of canine disc competitions – an unlikely place for a big-headed, lumbering pit bull to make his mark. But through the sheer will of his unbending desire, Wallace exceeded all expectations, and along the way he helped salvage the couple who had saved him and became a symbol of hope and potential in a larger struggle.

I'm so sorry this happened -- could you tell us what neighborhood you live in so we have a betterRead More idea of what part of town the cat may be in? Also, I'm curious whether animal control questioned your nephew -- there is a link between people who abuse animals and those who later abuse other people (and cats seem to be the 'gateway' to larger mammals). If anyone reading this has any suggestions on how to locate or lure back this kitty, please respond.

I hope you are able to prohibit your nephew from further access to animals. You did not mention hisRead More age, bu poor treatment of animals in youth is often a precursor to similar treatment/crimes against people in later years. I hope you have taken steps to correct this behavior, or have taken it up with his parents, if they are available.
