Elfriede (Brandl) Hios, a longtime resident of Old Greenwich, passed away peacefully on Sept. 16, 2013 at age 80. She was the beloved wife of 50 years of Themistocles "Themis" Hios.

Elfriede was born on April 22, 1933 in Sudetenland before being evacuated during World War II to Bavaria, Germany with her parents and two sisters, Trudie and Helene. In 1955, she arrived in New York on a visit. It was there she met her husband Themis, and after a six-year courtship they married in 1963 and had three wonderful sons. Elfriede was known for her excellent cooking and gardening skills, but nothing gave her greater pleasure than her seven beautiful grandchildren who will miss her terribly.

She is survived by her sons Anton Hios (Karen) of Rye, NY, Peter Hios (Jennifer) and Ted Hios (Amy) both of Fairfield, CT and grandchildren Alexis Hios, Sara Hios, Jake Hios, Megan Hios, Nicholas Hios, Zachary Hios and Kyle Hios. Her kindness, strength and courage will be an inspiration to all those she touched.

Elfriedes' family will receive family and friends on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013 at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT from 4 to 8 p.m. At the family's request, the interment will be private.
