Frank A. Dorrico, III, 57; Retired U.S. Postal Employee

Calling hours are scheduled for Friday evening, Jan. 10, with the funeral scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 11.


Frank A. Dorrico III, passed away at his brother's Norwalk home, on Jan. 8, 2014, following a yearlong battle with cancer. He was 57.

He was born in Stamford, March 21, 1956, the son of Barbara A. (Fraser) Dorrico and the late Frank A. Dorrico Jr. 

He was raised in Greenwich. He attended Glenville School, Western Junior High School and was a 1974 graduate of Greenwich High Schools. 

Mr. Dorrico was employed by the U.S. Postal Service since 1984. He retired from the USPS in August 2013. As a youth, he was an altar boy at St. Paul's Church, in Greenwich. He was the first Eagle Scout of Troop 35 and a Charter Member all these years.

He coached the Vet's Little League baseball team from 1974 to 1980. He also coached the Econowash and B.C. Softball teams, each for 15 years. Mr. Dorrico played in many softball tournaments for charity as well. He was very active in sports, also playing with local volleyball and bowling leagues. He had quite a green thumb, as was evident with all his gardens at Hampshire House, where he lived, and family plots and gardens in the area.

Besides his mother, Barbara of Kent, CT, he is survived by his aunt, Mary Dorrico of Sun City Center, FL; his sisters, Susan and her husband, Rick of Kent, and Patricia of Greenwich; his brother, Michael and his wife, Deeann, of Norwalk. He also is survived by his nieces, Nicole Giancaspro and Elyse Koontz, of Fort Worth, TX; McKinley Dorrico, of Norwalk; his nephew Michael Dorrico, Jr of Norwalk; great-nephews Vinny and Gino Giancaspro, and great-niece Alexis Koontz, all of Fort Worth, TX; as well as many cousins and friends. 

Mr. Dorrico's family would like to thank all the Doctor's & Nurses at the Bendheim Cancer Center, Greenwich,  for their loving care and support through all of his visits.

Family and friends may visit from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10 at Leo P. Gallagher's Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St. Stamford. The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 St. Paul's Church, Sherwood Avenue, Greenwich.
