George A. Petersen, 87, Lifelong Greenwich Resident

Calling hours are scheduled for Jan. 30; the funeral is Jan. 31.

 

George A. Petersen, 87, a lifelong Greenwich resident, passed away surrounded by his family on Jan. 26, 2013.

He was born Feb. 7, 1925 to the late Thomas and Bertha (Jensen) Petersen.

He has been married to Winifred (Foley) Petersen for almost 60 years.

George attended Greenwich Schools and was a graduate of Ithaca College and for many years worked as a chemical engineer at American Cyanamid in Stamford. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the United States Navy from 1943-1945 and was in Normandy on June 6, 1944. George loved to bowl and his favorite activity was going to Island Beach.

In addition to his wife Winifred, George is survived by his children; Michael Petersen (Miriam), Elizabeth T. Lankard (James), Barbara Engborg (Richard), and Maryann Boyer (Philip); his grandchildren Amanda Engborg, Jessica Tyrrell, Laura Boyer, Timothy Engborg, Emily Boyer, Michelle Petersen, William Lankard and Christopher Petersen.

Family and friends may visit at the Castiglione Funeral Home, Inc., from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 30.  Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 31.  Burial with military honors will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Greenwich.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Nathaniel Witherell Patient Care Fund, 70 Parsonage Rd., Greenwich, CT 06830.

Seems to me you are missing the most obvious which is shown in the photo used at the top ofRead More Greenwich Patch pages - Grass Island Marina/Park is directly across the waterway. You won't be able to see much of the stage front but you can certainly enjoy the tunes.
