Greenwich Obituary: Dominick Sarica, 90; Former Porricelli's Store Manager



Dominick P. Sarica, of Greenwich, passed away peacefully on May 25. He was 90.

Born Nov. 20, 1922, he was a son of the late Giovanna and Antonio Sarica.

Mr. Sarica was a graduate of Hamilton Ave Elementary School, Greenwich High School, and The Army Air Force Technical Training School in Chicago, IL. He enlisted into the Army Air Corp on Nov. 12, 1942 where he became a member of the 351st bomb group, 508th squadron, 8th Air Force in World War II as a radio operator-mechanic at group headquarters from 1943-1945.

After his military service, he became a lifetime member of the Amogerone Volunteer Fire Co. serving as a secretary for 20 years. He was the co-chairman of the Chickahominy Association and a member of the Chickahominy Reunion, and the secretary of the Canadian American Hockey League for two years. 

Mr. Sarica worked as a store manager at Grand Union Supermarket for 22 years, and then at Porricelli's Food Mart for 27 years.

He was an usher at St. Roch's Church. He also enjoyed and participated in many sports, especially the fast pitch softball league.

Dominick is survived by his wife Angelina C. Sarica; his son, Anthony Bud Sarica and his wife Emmy; grandchildren, Alicia Pucci Gerbert (Jeffrey), Erica J. Pucci, Catherine Pucci, Christina Pucci, Sarah Pucci, Isaac Sarica, Gianna Sarica; great-grandchildren Domenick J. Gerbert, Daniel M. Gerbert; and his son-in-law, Angelo Pucci.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Sarica was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph and Anthony; sisters Josephine Salerno and Angela Zumbo; a daughter Geraldine Pucci, and a granddaughter Alana Sarica.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Castiglione Funeral Home, 134 Hamilton Ave. on Thursday, May 30, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday May 31, at St. Roch's Church. Internment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Greenwich.
