Greenwich Resident and Physicist Lee Davenport
He was the inventor of an anti-aircraft radar system used in World War II.
Greenwich resident and physicist Lee Davenport died of cancer Friday, Sept. 30, at the Nathaniel Witherell Nursing Home, according to a report in the Danbury News-Times. He was 95.
According to the report, Davenport developed an anti-aircraft radar system during WWII that was key in helping Allied forces defeat Axis armies in Europe and the Pacific. He had a long career that included executive positions with Perkin-Elmer Corp., Sylvania Corporation and GTE Labs, among many other accomplishments.
He is survived by his second wife, Doris Moss. He was predeceased by his first wife on Jan. 5, 2004, just three weeks shy of their 59th wedding anniversary. His eldest daughter, Jeanne Treder, 51, died earlier this year in Grand Saline, Texas, according to the report.

A memorial service will be held Oct. 22 at the in Old Greenwich.
