Helen V. Makowski of New Fairfield, formerly of Greenwich, died Jan. 24, 2013. Her passing at 88 was peaceful and at home with family members at her side.
She was the wife of the late Joseph Makowski. Helen was born March 1, 1924 in Port Chester, NY, the daughter of Cortland and Helen Reynolds.
She was graduated from Greenwich High School and married Joseph Makowski in 1946. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife and mother.
Helen worked at the Harper Method beauty salon in Greenwich for many years. Helen had a great interest in the history of Greenwich, reading and collecting books that described the local by-gone years of the town. She and her husband Joseph were active in the Westchester and Fairfield Horticultural Society. She was also a member of the Byram Garden Club and Sacred Heart Church Flower Committee. She held many a Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at her home in Greenwich, putting on a great festive meal for the whole family to enjoy. Helen enjoyed the company of her neighbors and many friends especially during summer months, surrounded by the many flowers in her garden. Helen will be remembered for her Welsh sense of humor and quick wit.
She is survived by a daughter Diane Czarnik and son-in-law Joseph Czarnik of New Fairfield, two sons, Mark Makowski of Groton, and Richard Makowski of Stamford; two grandchildren Jessica Makowski of Appleton, WI and Adam Czarnik of New Fairfield; and nephews Peter Krack of Danbury, and Jeffrey Krack of Carmel, NY.
She is predeceased by her sister Margret Krack and brother-in-law Robert Krack.
A memorial mass service will be held at at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Feb, 2, at Holy Trinity Church, Sherman, CT.
