Kevin Zoltan Merszei, 29; Commercial Pilot Who Obtained His Pilot License as a Teen

Kevin Zoltan Merszei, died Nov. 22, 2013 at his family home in Greenwich. He was 29.

Born in Los Angeles on Jan. 6, 1984, he was the son of Aimee and Zoltan Merszei.

Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Greenwich. Kevin attended Greenwich Country Day School and The Eaglebrook School. He graduated Greenwich High School in 2003 and Arizona State University in 2008.

From childhood, Kevin was fascinated with aviation. His natural aptitude earned him his private pilot license at age 18. At the time of his death he held FAA certifications in the most complex commercial aircraft in use today. He had worked as co-pilot of a private jet in Nigeria, instructor in an advanced aircraft simulator, and specialized cargo transport. In 2013, Kevin moved to Miami to fly for Ameriflight, domestically and internationally.

Kevin loved life’s pleasures, particularly travel. Over the years, he visited some 40 European and Asian countries. Intrigued with foreign cuisines, he mastered many in the kitchen. His loyalty, generosity, infectious and wry sense of humor, and his love for those closest to him will be remembered and sorely missed.

Kevin is survived by his parents, now of Palm Beach, FL; his wife Cristina whom he married in June; his half-siblings Leslie (Kliew) of Thailand, Geoffrey (Mary Jane) of Switzerland, Karen (Richard Stern) of Washington, DC, and his uncle Frederick Morner of Oakland, CA.

A funeral mass will be held at noon Friday, Nov. 29 at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 4 Riverside Ave., Riverside.

In lieu of flowers, donate in Kevin’s memory to Pediatrics at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
