Obituary: Helen Foley Hawkins, Long-time Greenwich Hospital Volunteer

Mrs. Hawkins lived in Greenwich for more than 50 years.




Helen Foley Hawkins, a longtime volunteer in Greenwich, passed away on June 6, 2013 of respiratory failure. She was 89. 

Mrs. Hawkins and her husband, Howard R. Hawkins who passed away in 2003, traveled the world in connection with his extensive work in global communications. Mrs. Hawkins had many friends, volunteered at the Greenwich Hospital for more than 30 years, and participated in community service. Mrs. Hawkins grew up in the town of Leonia, NJ, and lived in Greenwich for more than 50 years. 

Mrs. Hawkins lived a full life complete with devotion to God, her family and the town in which she lived. 

She is survived by her children Katherine Hawkins, Howard R. Hawkins, Jr., Rosemary Hawkins and Suzanne Hawkins; her daughter-law Linda Whitmarsh, her son-in-law Paul Chrzanowski; her grandchildren Eric and Brian Hawkins, her granddaughter-in-law Sarah Williams Hawkins, her grandsons Terence and Jeffrey Gibbons, her great grandson Henry Hawkins; her brother John James Foley, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen will be missed by all she touched and remembered as an intelligent, energetic and loving person who enriched the lives of all who were lucky enough to know her.

Visiting hours will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. June 14, 2013 at the Gallagher Funeral Home, 31 Arch St., Greenwich. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. June 15 at St. Michael's Church, 469 North St., Greenwich.
